>> Push and Pull <<
Have you ever felt like you should be in two places at once? As if you enjoy your current surroundings, but on the other hand have something pulling you to another place? This is a common feeling for me. Having moved several times in my twenties and lived in lots of locations, I am always thinking about "the next move". I've been living in Calgary for 7 years now which is the most consistent place I have lived since leaving my hometown to go to university when I was 18. The thought is always lingering on "where to next" but at the same time I'm pulled back into the comfort and familiarity of this place.
I have been thinking about doing a piece that represents this unsettling feeling for a while now. When I was approached for a commission with complete artistic freedom, I knew exactly what I was going to do. This piece very much represents the Push and Pull in my life right now. I LOVE the mountains and all of the joy and inspiration it's brought to me and my art..but I also appreciate the comfort of Calgary and the great experiences it has provided. The harsh structural lines of the buildings blended into the organic textures of the mountains are forced together to create a sense of merging and unity between two lifestyles. So so happy with how this new piece turned out!
It's a big world out there ..so where to next ? 🙂
